La Gamme et autres Morceaux de Symphonie pour le Violon, la Viole et le Clavecin
- La Gamme, en forme de petit Opéra
- Sonate à la Marésienne
- Sonnerie de Ste Geneviève du Mont de Paris
Paris, 1723: Marin Marais publishes his final masterpiece, La Gamme et autres Morceaux de Symphonie, an extraordinary collection for violin, viola da gamba and harpsichord. The first piece, in the form of a small opera, places drama at the centre of the music. The second work, by contrast, is pure virtuosity. Finally, the emblematic Sonnerie de Sainte Geneviève du Mont repeats the timbres of three bells to the point of hypnosis. Yoko Kawakubo, Myriam Rignol and Julien Wolfs reign in splendour over this music, casting the final glow of the Grand Siècle.

Excerpts from the collection Orpheus Britannicus devoted to the music of Henry PURCELL (1659–1695)
After the death of Henry Purcell in 1695, the London musical world honoured his memory through the publication of his works. Among these, Henry Playford edited Orpheus Britannicus in 1698, from which this concert presents numerous excerpts.
Thanks to these three exceptional musicians, we quietly step into the workshop of one of the most endearing and singular composers of the 17th century. The programme explores the various forms of writing then in vogue, from ground songs to theatrical scenes, all performed in Early Modern English.

Marion LE MOAL shawm, bombards, recorders
Valentin BRUCHON bagpipes, flutes
Rémi LÉCORCHÉ busine, slide trumpet, sackbut, recorders

Works by Guillaume DE MACHAUT (c. 1300–1377), Guillaume DUFAY (c. 1397–1474), Josquin DES PRÉS (c. 1450–1521), troubadour songs and others.
Texts by Christine DE PIZAN (c. 1364 – c. 1430), Jean FROISSARD (c. 1337 – c. 1405), Jeanne D’ARC (1412–1431), Jean DUBOIS (c. 1350 – after 1392) and others.
This programme invites the audience to immerse themselves in the sound world that shaped Europe from the late Middle Ages to the early Renaissance, thanks to the colourful timbres of wind instruments and percussion. We move from the hypnotic melodies of early motets to the joyful songs of troubadours.
From knights’ tournaments to the fanfares of castle balls, shawms and slide trumpets gradually give way to gentle recorders. These hum subtle polyphonies inspired by popular themes, heard in the alcoves of palaces.

When Orpheus sang
A reflection of a vibrant musical Europe, the biblical story inspired works in which eloquence is expressed with power and contrast. Purcell shines with The Witch of Endor, Charpentier with his masterful Le reniement de Saint-Pierre, and Italy reveals a newly rediscovered gem: Il Pianto di Maria by Ferrandini, recently brought to light by Camille Delaforge. After their success in 2023, it is a pleasure to welcome Il Caravaggio back to La Folia in this spiritual programme promising profound emotion.

Domenico Scarlatti’s Stabat Mater is a unique and virtuosic work for ten solo voices and basso continuo, written while the composer was Maestro di cappella at St Peter’s Basilica in Rome. In this programme, Voces Suaves combines this moving masterpiece of polyphony with other magnificent Italian sacred works centred on the Passion, such as the unforgettable Miserere by Allegri. The walls of Rougemont Church will tremble with beauty!

«A LUMINOUS POLYPHONY»
The violins of the Renaissance in Europe
LES SONADORI
Béatrice LINON soprano violin
Odile EDOUARD alto violin
Nicolas SANSARLAT contralto violin
Alain GERVREAU bassetto violin
Works by Costanzo FESTA (c. 1485–1545), Cyprien DE RORE (c. 1515–1565), Josquin DES PRÉS (c. 1450–1521), Adrian WILLAERT (c. 1490–1562), Pierre DE LA RUE (c. 1452–1518), Josquin BASTON (c. 1515 – after 1576), and others.
This programme offers a musical journey through Italian, French and Netherlandish polyphony of the 16th century. Present in every song, motet or dance of the early Renaissance, this polyphony encouraged the creation of ensembles of instruments from the same family, each size playing the voice corresponding to its tessitura. Les Sonadori will thus present the Renaissance violin, with brilliance and finesse!

ENSEMBLE CÉLADON
Paulin BÜNDGEN countertenor
Caroline HUYNH VAN XUAN harpsichordist and clavichordist
Songs by Guillaume DUFAY (1397–1474), Gilles BINCHOIS (c. 1400–1460), Josquin DES PRÉS (c. 1450–1521), Claudin DE SERMISY (c. 1490–1562), Clément JANEQUIN (c. 1485–1558), John DOWLAND (1563–1626), Thomas CAMPION (1567–1620), and others.
Hits of one day, hits forever: in this programme, Ensemble Céladon sweeps through the European hits of the 16th century! On stage, a curious instrument: the clavicytherium (a kind of small vertical harpsichord), its unflappable keyboardist and a brilliant, eccentric countertenor! With the help of a twelve-sided die and delightful anecdotes, the two musicians will make you play and travel, for a concert in which humour and good spirits reign supreme!
